My reaction to the chapter is
ReplyDeletepe
My reaction to the chapter 1 is that boo radley is an interesting person and i would want to find out the mystery behind the storyies as well. I wonder if Jem, Scout, and Dill will be able to get him to come out
ReplyDeleteTF
CHAPTER ONE:
ReplyDeleteMy reaction was to this chapter was, that I thought it was boring. All it did was give the reader backround information on Scout's family life. Although this information was important to the reader, the author didn't really keep my interest, she didn't make me want to continue reading.
-ASB
CHAPTER ONE:
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to chapter one was that the author wanted the reader to know the scene of the story. She summerized throughout chapter one and basically, told all of the backround information.
-MM
My reaction to chapter 1 is that it was mainly about Scout(the narator's) family history. It also intrduces facts about Boo Radley. Who ends up playing a large role in the story down the road
ReplyDelete<(") CP
My reaction to chapter 1 is not very busy. This chapter isn't busy because when the narrator (Scout) describes Maycomb she describes it as boring and it seemes like there's nothing to do. Maycomb seems like a dull town from what Scout describes it.
ReplyDeleteA.B.
Chapter 1- "Introduction to Maycomb." This chapter basically discusses what the town of Maycomb is like and what type of families live in the town of Maycomb.
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to chapter one is that this book will talk about families or a family that live in the town of Maycomb and it will explain what the families life is like while they are living in the town of Maycomb.
K.T.
my reaction to chapter 1 is that i learned a lot about the town of maycomb and i got a description about the people who live there. also, scout (the main character and narrator) describes her family to us and their house. the facts about Boo Radley are also introduced in the first chapter of this book.
ReplyDelete<3 :) m.h.
My reaction to the chapter 2 is that i wouldnt want to go to school there ether. Wouldnt it be welcomed if a child could read or write? Also the punishments are harsh for only first grade. i feel bad for the teacher not having a good first day
ReplyDeleteTF
My reaction to the chapter was intresting. I thought this chapter was intresting because people in Maycomb had very strange ways of doing things. I also found this chapter intresting because Maycomb is way different than where I live so I was very curious about the town. AF
ReplyDeleteChapter one: "Welcome to this boring town"
ReplyDeleteIn this chapter Scout the narrator was simply discribing the town of Maycomb and the way people ran their daily lives. She made it very clear her thoughts on the town. She also stated the town was not really eventful.
J.Y.
Chapter 1- The Finches
ReplyDeleteI chose the title The Finches for the first chapter because the whole chapter bascially talked about all backround information on the Finches and their town. AF
Chapter 1-" Introduction"
ReplyDelete*This chapter discusses the background of the town and the people which live in it.
My reaction to the chapter is that the story will be about the Finch family and their life in Maycomb. I think the Radley's Place is strange.
RB
My reaction to chapter 2 is it shows how unique of a town Maycomb is because Miss Caroline doesnt really know how to connect with the kids because they grew up working and she wasnt familiar with it, so she couldn't connect.
ReplyDelete<(")
C.P.
Chapter 2- The First Day
ReplyDeleteThe First Day is a great title for chapter 2 because all throughout it, it talked about Scout and Jem's first day of school for the year. AF
Chapter 1: Our Town
ReplyDeleteScouts town is slow moving, had a daily routine, and everyone knew everyone. The town is very dull and boring.
A.P.
My reaction to chapter two is that it introduces characters and the different personalities make it entertaining to view how each person reacts.
ReplyDeletemr
Reaction to Chapter 2-
ReplyDeleteMy reaction for chapter two was nervous. I was nervous for Scout. I knew she was a trouble maker and I didn't want her to get into more trouble. I was also nervous for Scout because it was her first time being away from Jem. AF
Chapter 2- "Miss Caroline, Let me Explain." just talks about how its Scout's first time going to school and Scout's opinion about his first day of school.
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to chapter 2 is I found that Miss Caroline is very uptight because when Scout tried to explain that Walter Cunningham is pooor and he couldn't barrow money from her for lunch because he couldn't pay it back she just hit Scout on her hand because she thought she was lying to her. I also found that after Scout got home from school she didn't want to go back because she hated it there and she didn't like Miss Caroline.
My reaction to chapter 1 is that Maycomb was an old, somewhat run down town, where there was nothing to do and nowhere to go.the town was very poor and people had to paybacktheir debts in products because they have no money. And the narrator was in one of the families thatisnt as poor as the others because her father Atticus had a high paying job. But i found it kind of strange that Scout and Jem call their father Atticus and not dad like most children do. My favorite character in chapter 1 was Dill, because he is so interested in Boo Radley and how he looks. JV
ReplyDeleteChapter 3- Conflicts at School
ReplyDeleteThis chapter involved some problems with Scout at school. Some problems involved Scout's attitude, Miss Caroline stressed out, and Atticus not being able to read with Scout anymore. AF
Chapter 2-"Off to School"
ReplyDelete*September comes and Dill goes back to Mississippi and the kids goe back to school.
My reaction to the chapter is that it must have been bad for Scout to be dissapointed of school since she was very excited and she realized that her whole journey through the 1st grade would be a awful expeience filled with drama.
RB
Chapter 3 Reaction
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to this chapter was nervous again. I was nervous because I didn't want anymore problems to begin. There is enough stress on the family to begin with so I just want things to cool down. AF
My reaction to chapter 3 is that Scout is really impressionable. She was excited to go to school on the first day, but when everyone started to dislike going, she told Atticus that she never wanted to go back.
ReplyDeletemr
Chapter 5 Title- Poor Scout, All Excluded
ReplyDeleteDuring this chapter, Scout is really left out. Dill and Jem only want to hang out with each other so Scout leaves and hangs out with Miss Maudie.
My reaction to chapter 2 is that it shows in this chapter how small Maycomb is and how everybody knows everybody elses buisness, because everybody knew why Walter Cunningham wouldn't take the quarter from Miss Caroline, because he couldn't pay her back and his family never takes anythning that they can't pay back and Scout tries to tell her this but Miss Caroline doesn't listen and just hits Scout on the hand. She should have taken the time to listen and shouldn't have told Scout that her dad couldn't read to her anymore
ReplyDelete<3 :) m.h.
My reactoin to chapter 3 is how can anyone put syrup on vegies or meat? I agree with scout that walter is weird in how he ate his food. He reminds me of elf when he says he loves syrup and pours it onto his pasta.
ReplyDeleteTF
CHAPTER TWO:
ReplyDeleteI felt the same way Scout felt when I fisrt started school. Although, I could not relate to how Scout must have felt when she was hit by a stick by the teacher. Obviously, I was never hit (hard) by a teacher before so I wouldn't know how she felt. Even though the teacher was having a rough day, I still don't feel bad for her because I don't agree with her punishments.
-MM
Chapter 5 Reaction
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to this chapter was upset. I was upset because Scout was so excluded. I felt bad that Dill and Jem didn't want to hang out with Scout anymore.
My reaction to chapter 2 is that I would also fake sick to stay home from school because the teaching style that the school has is unfair and harsh to the kids even the ones that are very young. And some people feel bad for the teacher for her bad first ady but i believe she had it coming to her.
ReplyDeleteJV
Chapter 4-"Summer Excitement"
ReplyDelete*The setting and time period of chapter 4 is summer which is a very exciting time for the characters which is why I chose it.
During this chapter Scout passes
RB
Chapter 6 Title- The Boys Getting into Trouble
ReplyDeleteThis whole chapter was Jem and Dill doing troublesome things. They were so into Boo Radleys' life that they went to his house late at night and looked in his window. That is ridiculous and unacceptable.
My reaction to Chapter 4 gives me an eerie feeling. The children find a tree which contains many odd objects, like arrow heads and gum. They also decide to make a game called Boo Radley, a "play" of some sort in which they act as the radleys and play out the stories they have heard. But who is the person leaving all the items in the tree?
ReplyDeleteTF
Reaction Chapter 6
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to this chapter was appauled. I was appauled because I didn't think it was right at all for Dill and Jem to be sneaking into the Radleys' yard. It's no one's buisness of what the Radleys' do.
Chapter 7 Title- Creepyness!
ReplyDeleteThis chapter should be called creepyness because two big and scary things happen. One thing that creeped me out was when Jem went outside at 2 AM and his clothes were just waiting for him on the Radleys' fence. Another creepy thing is that in the giving tree were carvings of a girl and a boy that looked exactly like Scout and Jem. That is why this chapter should be called creepyness.
Chapter 7 Reaction
ReplyDeleteMy reaction was scared. I was scared throughout this chapter because so many creepy things were happening. Someone must have been watching Scout and Jem if there is a carving of them, thats so scary!
Chapter 8 Title- Mass Destruction & Boo Radley
ReplyDeleteSadly in this chapter Miss Maudie's house was burned down. It's so sad and that's why I included the mass destruction part of the title. I included the Boo Radley part in the title because during the fire it was freezing out and Boo put a blanket on Scout.
Chapter 8 Reaction
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to Chapter 8 was suprised. I was suprised during this chapter because I didn't think anyone would ever see Arthur (Boo) Radley. I was also suprised Arthur was so kind and put a blanket over Scout, I didn't think that was Arthur's personality at all seeing he was a troublesome teen.
Chapter 9 Title- Family Can Be Cruel
ReplyDeleteScout was really pushed around in this chapter. She had cruel family members who thought the way she acted was wrong! I picked this title because it's very rude to critize family.
Chapter 9 Reaction
ReplyDeleteI was sad throughout this chapter. I thought it was so rude to critize the way Scout acted. Scout should be able to act however she would like.
Chapter 10 Title- A Mad Dog? Good Job Atticus
ReplyDeleteIn this chapter, there was a mad dog on the loose. A mad dog is a sick dog that goes crazy before it dies. This dog was so crazy that Atticus had to kill him. Atticus was such a hero to the neighborhood.
Chapter 10 Reaction
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to chapter 10 was nervous. I was nervous during this chapter because I didn't want anyone to get hurt or injured by this crazy dog. I was also nervous for Atticus because he was the one fighting off the dog.
Chapter 11 Title- Courageous Mrs. Dubose
ReplyDeleteThis is a great title for this chapter because it was all about Mrs. Dubose. Mrs. Dubose is a very courageous person because she never held back her feelings. She let everyone know how she felt.
Reaction to Chapter 11
ReplyDeleteI was feeling brave throughout chapter 11. I thought that if Mrs. Dubose could be as brave as she is then so could I.
Chapter 1
ReplyDeleteI thought Chapter 1 was very descriptive and helped me understand the story more and get more into the story than I thought I would.
AMRL
Chapter 2
ReplyDeleteI thought it was interesting to see a teacher try to keep with her students on her first day and how a poor kid wouldn't accept food because he's reached the point of wanton starvation and knowing right off the bat he won't be able to pay off Mrs. Caroline.
AMRL
Chapter 3
ReplyDeleteIt made me think back to when I started school and thouught, seemingly rationally, that school was utterly useless. Ah, kids...
AMRL
Chapter 4
ReplyDeleteOminous would be a very descriptive word for this chapter. From random finds from inside a tree to laughing from inside the RADLEY'S, this chapter is very much so.
Chapter 5
ReplyDeleteBoo is clearly a main character in this part of the story, despite the lack of him being present... But I certainly wouldn't try to change that by luring Boo Radley outside like Jem and Dill did. Try, that is. In that I suppose I can't relate to them, but awareness of that is as good as relating to them, no?
AMRL
Chapter 6
ReplyDeleteOne last escapade with a good friend before he leaves for a long time is something I always try to do, but I nonetheless wouldn't sneak into the Radley's place and scare Dill half to death 'one last time'... : /
AMRL
Chapter 7
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, Jem, I would be afraid too if me and my sister's lives were in danger from a man who essentially raised 3 killers...and still lives with one of them... Wow.
Chapter 8
ReplyDeleteThis chapter posed some questions... How did the house fire happen? Why did Boo Radley give Scout a blanket? Does Miss Maudie really care less about her house than her azeleas? Perhaps most importantly, at least to the citizens of Maycomb county at the time, why are the children revolting making it snow??
AMRL
Chapter 9
ReplyDeleteScout has an odd family. Or at least she thinks so, which poses the question of what was NORMAL back then? Children kept in the house all the time, having a mother figure, and discrimination against black people were all normal things that Scout didn't do, have, and act.
AMRL
Chapter 10
ReplyDeleteI noticed that the theme that it was a sin to kill a mockingbird, the base for the title of the book, was presented in this chapter. I also noticed how at the beginning Scout talked about how Atticus was getting too old and at the end he uses skills he hasn't used in years to stop a mad dog (one of those "Hah-ha, you still got it!" moments). I liked this chapter very much.
AMRL
Chapter 11
ReplyDelete"Depressing, despondant, woeful, other synonyms for sad" is a quote that comes to mind when thinking of this chapter. Even though what I got of Mrs. Dubose was that she was cruel and mean, I was sad when I found out she died. She died in peace, though, and that's what counts.
AMRL
My reaction to chapter 3 is I thought that Scout was a good kid and it suprised me when she found Walter in the schoolyard and rubbed his face in the dirt. This also showed that Jem is a kind person when he stopped Scout from rubbing his nose in the dirt and invited Walter to dinner. In this chapter I also found out that back then certian kids like Burris Ewell were allowed to just come to school the first day and go back home to work on their family's farm.
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to chatper 4 was that I was wondering why Scout would eat the bubble gum that she found in the knothole outside the Radley's house and if her and Jem were so scared then why would they go back there and look in the same knothole and keep the Indian head pennies that they found. Also, why would they play a game where Scout, Jem, and Dill pretended to be the Radleys and then lie to Atticus about it
ReplyDelete<3 :) m.h.
My reaction to chapter 5 was that Jem and Scout seemed to kind of grow apart a little seeing that Jem and Dill were spending a lot of time together and Scout and her neighbor, Miss Maudie, who tells Scout the truth about Boo Radley and how he was a nice kid with a crazy father who thought that most people were going to hell. I also thought that Jem and Dill were smarter than to try and invite Boo out to get ice cream with them, but Atticus told them to stop with the notes and the Boo Radley game.
ReplyDelete<3 :) m.h.
After reading chapter 6, I was supprised that Jem would disobey Atticus and go back to the Radley house with Dill. Also, when Miss Maudie told Scout that Mr. Radley was shooting at negros, i was worried that he could have possibly be talking about Jem and Dill and they could have been hurt.I was also suprised that Jem would lie to Atticus again about his pants and thought even if Dill was playing strip poker, how would you forget your pants?

ReplyDeleteChapter 2- "Miss Caroline, Let me Explain." just talks about how its Scout's first time going to school and Scout's opinion about his first day of school.

by the radleys Place and finds 2 pieces of gum in a tree. The last day of school her and Jem find Indian -head pennies which they keep. Then their summer fun begins and Dill arrives back.
ReplyDeleteRB
Chapter 5-"Scout is Out"
ReplyDelete* Scout feels left out as Jem and Dill grow closer. She begins to spend much time with Miss Maudie Atkinson, a neighbor, who explains that Boo Radley was a polite child but doesn't exactly know how he turned out to be, but knows that he isn't really as crazy as everyone describes him as being. Atticus catches them playing the Boo Radley game and tells them to stop.
RB
Chapter 3- "Discouraging Walter Cunningham." I chose this title because in this chapter Jem invited Walter over for dinner with her and her family. When Walter came over Scout Continously critized Walter about everything that he did even if he did nothing wrong at all. Scout was mean to Walter because he got her into trouble.
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to this chapter was it made me wonder if Scout or Walter were ever going to be friends again and I felt bad for Walter because he was a poor kid with not many friends or not much of anything in his life and if Scout left him as a friend that would be terrible.
KT
Chapter 6-"Trouble"
ReplyDelete*Jem, Dill, and Scout decide to sneak around the Radley's place and peek in , then they see a shadow of a man and run away and hear a shotgun go off. As they try to escape Jem's pants get stuck on a fence and loses them. When they get home a crowd of adults is waiting for them and give their interpretations of what happened. They are sort of in trouble by the adults and can possibly be in big trouble with the Radleys.
RB
Chapter 4- "Terrifying Radley House." I chose this title because at one point in the chapter when it is Scouts turn to roll in the tire she rolls right into Radley's front steps and she gets out of the tire and runs away but she has to go back and get the tire and she isd terrified to do that.
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to this chapter is that i feel bad for Scout because she is in a school where the curriculum is too slow for her so she isn't rreally learning much so school is super boring for her, and she had to go into the Radley's yard.
KT
Chapter 8-" Snow,Fire,...Boo"
ReplyDelete*A rare snowfall occurs and the kid s build snow/dirtmen. That same night miss maudie's house catches on fire. Scout and other town members go out and watch all the firemen put it out. During the confusion of it all someone puts a blanket around Scout that someone is Boo Radley. When Scout finds this out she nearly pukes. The next day Miss Maudie is fine and is excited for a fresh start and building a smaller house and a larger garden.
RB
Chapter 5-"Too Bad for Scout." I chose this title because Jem and Dill start spending a lot of time together and Scout feels really left out because she isn't included.
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to this Chapter is that i feel bad for Scout because she isn't included in Jem and Dills friendship. Also, i was very scared for Jem and Dill because theywere almost killed by a shotgun at the rasdleys house and they kept messing with Boo Radley.
KT
Chapter 6-"Stay Away From the Radley's House."
ReplyDeleteI chose this title because Atticus tells Dill and Jem specifically to stay away form the Radley house or else they will get into a lot of trouble or they will get hurt.
My reaction to this chapter was very suspenseful and scared. I was suspenseful because i was wondering what was going to happen after Dill's last day at Maycomb when he and Jem disobeyed Atticus and planned to go over to the Radley house and peek through a loose shutter. i was also scared when thingsd kept appearing in the knothole especially when two figures carved out like Scout and Jem appeared in the knothole i knew something was wrong. Radley just said he plugged the hole because the trees were dying.
KT
Chapter 9-" Hatin on Atticus"
ReplyDelete*Scout gets into a fight with Cecil jacobs because he says that her dad defends n******. Atticus has to defend a black man accused of raping a white woman, who is completely innocent but will probably be proven guilty since he is going to be in front of a full white jury. At christmastime Atticus' brother and his family come to visit. Jack's son tells Scout that Dill is a runt and her dad is a " n******** lover". Then she beats him up. As you can see everyone is despising Atticus while he is simply doing his job.
RB
Chapter 10-"Old Atticus"
ReplyDelete*Atticus is older is older than most of the fathers in the town so he somewhat serves as an embarassment to his children since instead of hunting and fishing he reads. One day a mad dog appears and the mayor insists that Atticus shoots it down. He takes one shot, and to the childrens amazement, takes it down. A secret, informed from Miss Maudie, explains that when Atticus was a child had the best shot in the county, he was called one shot Finch. The kids decide to keep it a secret since they realize that if Atticus wanted them to know he probably would have told them.
* The story is beginning to get interesting
RB
Chapter 8- "Weird Things Happening in Maycomb." I chose this title because Maycomb experienced their first real winter in this chapter and Miss Maudies house caught on fire in the middle of the night.
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to this chapter was shocked because I never expected Maycomb to experience Winter because it is so hot there, and Miss Maudie's house catching on fire really caught me off-guard.\
KT
Chapter 9-"Scout Stay out of Trouble." The reason why i chose this title is becuase Scout nearly started a fight with this classmate named Cecil Jacobs when he said,"Scout's daddy clearly defends Niggers."
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to this chapter is i was angry at the boy Cecil because he was being very racist and I hate it when people are like that. I was also surprised that Atticus' brother Jack came down to spend the holidays with the family.
KT
Chapter 11-"Crazy Lady Equals Punishment"
ReplyDelete*One day as Jem and scout are passing by Mrs.Duboses house she shouts out that Atticus is no better than the n******* and trash he works for. Jem loses his temper and destroys her flowers. He is punished which he thinks he is severe and has to read to her everyday for a month. She has fits at the end of every session. A month after the punishment session she dies.
* Part 1 ends in a way where you want to see what happens next
RB
Chapter 10-"Wow Atticus" the readon why i chose this title is because even though Atticus is older than most of the town fathers he can still do things the younger fathers do. For example: one day a mad dog appeared and the sheriff told Atticus to shoot the dog and he did from a very far distance.
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to this chapter suprised because Atticus shot the dog from very far away. also i was surprised at what Francis called Scout and Dill
KT
My reaction to chapter 2 was, very disappointing. I felt like scout was being punished for being smart and having a good education.
ReplyDelete-AD-
CHAPTER ONE: MAYCEOMB COUNTY
ReplyDeleteI would choose to title chapter one, Mayeomb County because in this chapter Mayeomb county is being described and the people that live there amd what they do in that town. Also the unusually things that go on there and some of the wierd peoly that live there such as the Radlys.
-AD-
CHAPTER 2: STOP BEING SMART
ReplyDeleteI would choose to put Stop being Smart as a title for chapter 2 becauses in this chapter scout starts school and her teacher gets mad at her for being literate and for knowing how to read and write. She got punished for it.
-AD-
Chapter 2-
ReplyDeleteI thought chapter two was somewhat sad because Dill left but it also was aggrevating because Ms. Caroline wasn't understanding Scout, thinking Scout was a know-it-all.
A.B.
Chapter 3-
ReplyDeleteI thought chapter three was filled with emotion. I thought it was filled with emotion because Scout was getting back at Walter Cunningham, angry about what hapend with Ms. Caroline, and furious that her father, Atticus, wouldn't home school her.
A.B.
Chapter 4-
ReplyDeleteI thought chapter 4 was very different. I think it is different because the gifts in the tree were questionable. I thought Boo Radley was putting them in there but it questioned me because another Radley filled the live tree with cement.
A.B.
Chapter 5-
ReplyDeleteI thought chapter 5 was very upsetting because Dill and Jem excluded Scout to the point where she KNEW she wasn't going to be with them.
A.B.
Chapter 6-
ReplyDeleteI thought chapter 6 was surprising.
I thought it was surprising because Jem was obviously afraid to go to the Radley's yard before Dill came along and now Dill convinced Jem to stick a note in the window. I think Jem gave into peer pressure.
A.B.
Chapter 6-
ReplyDeleteI thought chapter 6 was surprising because because I didn't think Boo Radley was going to shoot at Jem.
A.B.
Chapter 7-
ReplyDeleteI thought chapter 7 was uncomfortable because Jem didn't feel comfortable talking about the night of the shooting.
A.B.
Chapter 8-
ReplyDeleteI thought chapter 8 was upsetting because Atticus didn't think there would be enough snow for Jem and Scout to make a snowman.
A.B.
My reaction to chapter 7 was that I was curious of who could be doing all those nice things for Jem like sewing his pants andbringing them back to him. Also, I was kind of creeped out when in the knothole Scout and Jem found soap carvigs of themselves.
ReplyDelete<3 :) m.h
<3 :) m.h.
My reaction to chapter 8 was that I was shocked that Boo Radley came out of hiding and talked to Atticus and told him everything that has been happeining. I was also suprised that Miss Maudie was so happy after her house had burnt down the day before.
ReplyDelete<3 :) m.h.
After reading chapter 9, I was shocked that 2nd graders talked like the kids in this book. Also, I was shocked that Alexandira was making Scout be more ladylike and wear a dress.
ReplyDelete<3 :) m.h.
After reading chapter 10, my opinion of Atticus completley changed. At first I thought he was just this boring, old dad who like Scout said embarasses his kids and now he's the hero of the town for shooting a mad dog and the kids learn that in his youth, Atticus was the best rifle shot in the county and the called him one- shot finch
ReplyDelete<3 :) m.h.
After I finished reading chapter 11, I was sad that the old lady had died from her addiction to morphine only a month after Jem had stopped readig to her as his punishment. Also I was curious that if she was such a bitter old woman, then shy did she leave Jem a presen with a single Camille in it?
ReplyDelete<3 :) m.h.
Chapter 11-"Mrs.Dubose". This chapter is mainly about Jem and Scout when they meet up with Mrs. Dubose. Throughout the chapter they have to serve a punishment so they are with her most of the time. This is why I chose this title.
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to the chapter is that Mrs. Dubose is a crazy lady and she expressed herself in a bad way. I feel that it was wrong for the kids to get in trouble when they were just defending their father.
K.T.
Chapter 12 Title- A New Church
ReplyDeleteI chose this title because during this chapter Atticus was away so Cal took Jem and Scout to her church Cal's church was much different than Jem and Scout's church, what an experience.
Chapter 12 Reaction
ReplyDeleteMy reaction was upsetting. I was upset during this chapter because I felt bad that the colored people had no supplies for church.
Chapter 13 Title- Guess Who's Moving In
ReplyDeleteI picked this title because it doesn't tell you Aunt Alexandra is moving in, it just says someone is. It gives you a little questioning and would make you want to read on.
Chapter 13 Reaction
ReplyDeleteI was happy during this chapter because now Jem and Scout will be more protected. Atticus was going to have some tough times with this trial going on so more protection for the kids would be very good.
Chapter one- "Maycomb"
ReplyDeleteThis chapter basically tells what the town of Maycomb is like and the different people of Maycomb, told by the narrator, Scout.
JF
After reading chapter one, I learned a lot of background knowledge about the families of Maycomb. It also introduces the character, Boo Radley, who plays an important role later in the story.
ReplyDeleteJF
Chapter 2- "First Day of School."
ReplyDeleteThis is a good title for chapter 2, because it describes Scout's first day of school, and how her view of school went from good to bad in just a short period of time.
My reaction to chapter 2 was sympothetic. I'm sympothetic for Scout because Miss Caroline woulnd't understand her. When Scout tried to explain that Walter Cunningham is poor and he couldn't borrow money from her for lunch because he couldn't pay it back, and she just hit Scout on her hand because she thought she was lying to her. She now hates school, because she hates the teacher, which is upsetting because she was so excited for it.
ReplyDeleteJF
Chapter 3- "Conflicts."
ReplyDeleteScout gets dncounters a conflict at school, with Walter Cunnhington, and with her teacher, Miss Caroline.
JF
My reaction to chapter 3-
ReplyDeleteI thought chapter three was filled with sentiment. Scout was trying to hurt Walter Cunnhingam, and she was angry at her teacher, Miss Caroline, for not understanding her, and upset that Atticus wouldn't home school her.
JF
Chapter 4- "The Radley House."
ReplyDeleteDill, Scout, and Jem talk about going up and touching the Radley house, which is a very dangerous idea.
JF
Chapter 4-
ReplyDeleteI thought chapter 4 was strange. The gifts that kept getting put in the tree were questionable. I wasn't sure who could be putting them in there, but it turns out it was one of the Radley's.
JF
Chapter 5- "Lonely."
ReplyDeleteI named this chapter, "Lonely," because Scout is left out from Dill and Jem's activites, and is left to be with Miss Maudie, but Scout didn't mind too much because she liked her.
JF
Chapter 5 was suspenseful. Jem, Dill, and Scout decide to go to the Radely house, and they hear someone coming, so they try to run and Jem gets caught. He decides to leave his pants and continue on.
ReplyDeleteJF
Chapter 6- "Danger."
ReplyDeleteAtticus tells Dill and Jem not to go to the Radley house, or else they will get in big trouble, but they go anyways.
Chapter 6- I thought chapter 6 was surprising. Jem was afraid to go to the Radley house before Dill came, and now Dill convinced Jem to put a note in the Radley window. Dill either pressured him, or inspired him.
JF
Chapter 7- "How did that happen."
ReplyDeleteI chose this as a title because, how did Jem's pants get sewed and neatly folded in a pile when he returned to get them, and how did they find soap carvings resembling them.
JF
Chapter 7 was really scary. Jem found his pants sewed where they were ripped, and neatly folded when he just put them in a messy pile, and they also found soap carvings resembling themselves.
ReplyDeleteJF
Chapter 8- "Fire."
ReplyDeleteMiss. Maudie's house had caught on fire, but to my suprise, she wasn't upset.

Chapter 8- The characters remain cheerful, despite the set-backs that occur. Example: Miss Maudie remains optimisitc after her house is destroyed, sees her prize flowers, first frozen, and then charred by fire- and offers a cheerful comment about wanthing a larger garden and a smaller house.

Chapter- 9. "Confused."
ReplyDeleteA kid at school began giving Scout trouble because her father was defending a black man. Scout wasn't sure what he meant by that or why that was such a bad thing, so before she took revenge, she consulted Atticus to learn more about the matter. Atticus explained to her that he was defending Tom Robinson, a black man, in a trial. He said that he had to do it although he knew he wasn't going to win because if he didn't take on this fight, he couldn't expect Jem or Scout to ever mind him again. Scout didn't really understand this.
JF
Chapter 9- It's upsetting to see how cruel people were back them, insulting Atticus's children because he was defending a colored man.

Chapter 10- "One Shot Finch."
ReplyDeleteAtticus suprises his kids by shooting the town pet-dog in one shot, and they're later informed that he was known as, "one shot Finch."
JF
Chapter 10-
ReplyDeleteThis chapter was touching. The kids didn't have much interest in their dad, thinking all's he did was sit and read, and not do anything exciting, until he shoots the town pet-dog with one shot, and they find out he was once known as, "one shot Finch." The kids have much more respect for their father, and are kind of inspired by him.

Chapter 11- "Mrs. Dubose."
ReplyDeleteThis chapter's about how Jem rudely responded to one of Mrs. Dubose's comments, and has to face the consequences with a punushment.
JF
Chapter 11-
ReplyDeleteI feel badly for Mrs. Dubose. She was terminally- ill and may have said some things she didn't mean, but the kids are young and may not have understood that. The kids were right to defend their father, but she is their elder and they could have done it in a polite manner. They learned that you will come across people in life that you will not get a long with or like, but you have to just deal with that and hold onto your humanity.

Chapter 21 Reaction
ReplyDeleteMy reaction was upsetting. I was upset because I didn't like how the trial played out and I thought it was a real unfair ending.
Chapter 21 Title- Victory has Arisen for Someone...
ReplyDeleteI named this chapter that because I didn't want to give away who won the trial. I just wanted to let the people know who are reading this that someone won the trial.
Chapter 22 Title- Good Ole, Miss Maudie
ReplyDeleteI chose this to be the title of this chapter because Miss Maudie was very proud of Atticus. She made cakes for the whole family and taught Jem what he didn't understand about the trial.
Chapter 22 Reaction
ReplyDeleteI was happy during chapter 22 because Miss Maudie was such a good person even though sometimes it didn't seem like it.
Chapter 23 Title- Beware of Mr. Ewell
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome title for this chapter because Mr. Ewell said he wants to kill Atticus. I think it was a good choice of title because it gets you very suspicious about Mr. Ewell.
Chapter 23 Reaction
ReplyDeleteMy reaction was scared because I didn't want anything bad to happen to Atticus and I knew Mr. Ewell did bad things!
Chapter 24 Title- Preparing Scout to be a Lady
ReplyDeleteI picked this title because local ladies in town were helping Scout become a lady in this chapter. The group gossipped about the town and ate refreshments. Scout was even wearing a dress.
Chapter 24 Reaction

ReplyDeleteI was so depressed in chapter 25 because I felt so terrible for Mrs. Robinson that her loving husband just got shot and is now dead.
Chapter 26 Title- Jem is Growing Up
ReplyDeleteJem is really changing. Scout and Jem barely hang out anymore. Jem is into football and the seventh grade. Jem is really getting older and that's why I chose this title.
Chapter 26 Reaction
ReplyDeleteMy reaction is happy because Jem is now growing up and turning into a sweet, young man.
Chapter 12- Church
ReplyDeleteI chose this title because during this chapter Atticus was away so Calpurnia took Jem and Scout to her church Cal's church was different from the one Jem and Scout were used to, because the church for the colored people had no Hymn books.
JF
Chapter 12- My reaction to chapter 12 was sad, because the colored people's church had no Hymn books, or really anything for the church.

Chapter 27 Title- New Changes in Maycomb
ReplyDeleteI think this is a perfect title for chapter 27 because things were changing in Maycomb. Different events are occuring all throughout Maycomb.
Chapter 27 Reaction
ReplyDeleteI was suprised throughout this chapter because I didn't think Maycomb would ever change. Maycomb is set and stone in their ways. That's why my reaction was suprised.
Chapter 28 Title- Jem Injured, Mr. Ewell Dead
ReplyDeleteThis is the title for chapter 28 because those two events were the most important in the chapter. This title would make not let you put the book down, you would have to keep reading.

Chapter 30 Title- How did Bob Ewell Die?
ReplyDeleteI chose this as the title of chapter 30 because there was so much vickering going on. Mr. Tate and Atticus were fighting about how Mr. Ewell died. That's why I think this is a great title for chapter 30 especially because it tells the main part of the chapter.
Chapter 30 Reaction
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to chapter 30 was confused. I was confused because I didn't know who to agree with on how Bob Ewell died. I really have no clue how he died.
Chapter 31 Title- Everything is Back To Normal
ReplyDeleteI chose this title because this is the last chapter of the book and Maycomb is finally falling back into place. Nothing is really out of order anymore. Now that the trial is over there is no stress for the Finch family. Everything is pretty well for the most part in Maycomb.
Chapter 31 Reaction
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to chapter 31 was relieved. I was so relieved that everything in Maycomb was finally getting back to normal. As of now, no one is stressed and everyone is safe. That is why I was relieved throughout chapter 31.
Chapter 13- "Aunt Alexandra."
ReplyDeleteI picked this title because it doesn't come right out and say that Aunt Alexandra is moving in, it just says someone is. It makes you curious and want to keep reading.
JF
Chapter 13-Reaction
ReplyDeleteI was happy during this chapter because now Jem and Scout will have a woman's guidance without a mother. Atticus would need help, because he'll be very busy during his trial. and Aunt Alexandra is there for that.
JF
Chapter 14- "Dill."
ReplyDeleteThe impending trial of Tom Robinson and Atticus’s role as his defense lawyer make Jem and Scout the talk of the town. Aunt Alexandra tries to convince Atticus to get rid of Calpurnia, saying that they no longer need her. Atticus refuses. After Scout and Jem get into a fight, they get sent to bed. Scout finds something under her bed. She calls Jem in and they discover Dill hiding there.
JF
Chapter 14- Reaction.
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to this chapter was a bundle of mixed feelings. I was annoyed with Aunt Alexandra who thinks she could tell Scout she can't go to Cal's church, and happy that Dill came back. But, also angry because Aunt Alexandra was trying to get rid of Cal, saying they don't need her anymore, when they very much do.
JF
Chapter 15- "Disgrace."
ReplyDeleteA week after Dill’s arrival, a group of men led by the sheriff, Heck Tate, come to Atticus’s house in the evening. As his trial is nearing, Tom Robinson is to be moved to the Maycomb jail, and concerns about the possibility of a lynch mob have arisen. Later, Jem tells Scout that Alexandra and Atticus have been arguing about the trial, she nearly accused him of bringing disgrace on the family.
JF
Chapter 15- Reaction.
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to chapter 15 was unfair. It's unfair that Tom Robinson is being sent away to jail, and Atticus tries to defend that saying, we're all part of Maycomb County.
JF
Chapter 11-
ReplyDeleteI think that the children didn't understand what was wrong with Ms.Dubose because when it was time for her medication they thought something was wrong with her.

Chapter 12-
ReplyDeleteI think chapter 12 is confusing because I did not understand what happened in the church.

Chapter 14-
ReplyDeleteI thought chapter 14 was surprising because I didn't expect Dill to show up under Scout's bed.
A.B.
Chapter 16- "The Courtroom."
ReplyDeleteI picked this name becase this chapter is about how everyone in the town is flooding into the courtroom to watch the trial. Miss Maudie refuses to go, saying that watching someone on trial for his life is like attending a Roman carnival.
JF
Chapter 16- Reaction.
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to this chapter is curious. I'm curious to see how the trial is going to go, and Miss Maudie's reaction when the trial is over.
JF
Chapter 17- "Tom Robinson's Case."
ReplyDeleteThis chapter's about how people are for and against Tom's case. Atticus’s examination is short: he asks Mr. Ewell why no doctor was called (it was too expensive and there was no need), and then has the witness write his name. Bob Ewell, the jury sees, is left-handed and a left-handed man would be more likely to leave bruises on the right side of a girl’s face.
JF
Chapter 17- Reaction.
ReplyDeleteThis chapter really caught my interest. It was very brilliant of Atticus to make the observation, that Tom is left-handed, and a left-handed man is more likely to hit a girl on the right side of her face.
JF
Chapter 18- "The Trial Deepens."
ReplyDeleteThe trial continues. Mayella, who testifies next, is a terrified nineteen-year-old girl. She says that she called Tom Robinson inside the fence that evening and offered him a nickel to break up a dresser for her, and that once he got inside the house he grabbed her and took advantage of her. In Atticus’s examination, Mayella reveals that her life consists of seven unhelpful siblings, a drunken father, and no friends.
Atticus then examines her testimony and asks why she didn’t put up a better fight, why her screams didn’t bring the other children running, and, most important, how Tom Robinson managed the crime: how he bruised the right side of her face with his useless left hand, which was torn apart by a cotton gin when he was a boy.
JF
Chapter 18- Reaction.
ReplyDeleteThis chapter is very interesting. I like how Atticus keeps coming up with good ideas to defend Tom Robinson.
JF
Chapter 19- "The Trial Continues."
ReplyDeleteTom says that he always passed the Ewell house on the way to work and that Mayella often asked him to do chores for her. On that night, she asked him to come inside the house and fix a door. When he got inside, there was nothing wrong with the door, and he noticed that the other children were gone. Mayella told him she had saved her money and sent them all to buy ice cream. Then she asked him to lift a box down from a dresser. When Tom climbed on a chair, she grabbed his legs, scaring him so much that he jumped down. She then hugged him around the waist and asked him to kiss her. As she struggled, her father appeared at the window, calling Mayella a bad name and threatened to kill her. Tom fled.
Link Deas, Tom’s white employer, stands up and declares that in eight years of work, he has never had any trouble from Tom. Judge Taylor furiously expels Deas from the courtroom for interrupting. Mr. Gilmer gets up and examines Tom. The prosecutor points out that the defendant was once arrested for disorderly conduct and gets Tom to admit that he has the strength, even with one hand, to choke the breath out of a woman and sling her to the floor. He begins to badger the witness, asking about his motives for always helping Mayella with her chores, until Tom declares that he felt sorry for her. This statement puts the courtroom in a state of shock, for in Maycomb, a black person was not supposed to feel bad for a white person.
JF
Chapter 19- Reaction.
ReplyDeleteThis chapter, again, kept my interest up. I believe Tom Robinson, that he is innocent, and did not do the crime, he is just being easily accused becase he's black.
JF
Chapter 20- "The Trial Comes to and End."
ReplyDeleteWhen Dill and Scout return to the courtroom, Atticus is making his closing remarks. He has finished going over the evidence and now makes a personal appeal to the jury. He points out that the prosecution has produced no medical evidence of the crime and has presented only the shaky testimony of two unreliable witnesses, moreover, the physical evidence suggests that Bob Ewell, not Tom Robinson, beat Mayella. He then offers his own version of events, describing how Mayella, lonely and unhappy, committed the unmentionable act of going after a black man and then concealed her shame by accusing him of rape after being caught. Atticus begs the jury to avoid the state’s assumption that all black people are criminals and to deliver justice by freeing Tom Robinso. Calpurnia then comes into the courtroom.
JF
Chapter 20- Reaction.
ReplyDeleteThis chapter makes me believe more and more that Tom Robinson is very much innocent. I believe that Tom will change the way blacks are treated, even by the littlest bit.
